OUR ANNUAL GENERAL MEETING WAS AN OPPORTUNITY TO CELEBRATE THE ENORMOUS PROGRESS WE HAVE MADE DURING THE YEAR AND LOOK FORWARD WITH HOPE

More than 40 members and guests attended our online annual meeting chaired by John Philip, which was undoubetdley an occassion for celebration!

We elected a new Board and a new Chair – Herbert Ederer from Austria.

Thanking the members for the honour, Herbert said: ‘Our richness is our diversity within our worldwide network. I want to invite each member to reach out to bring a new member for our fellowship. PRIP Shekhar Mehta quoted: Each one bring one!’

We heard two inspiring presentations from RI Director Pat Merryweather-Arges about the challenge of ensuring patient safety and from Ron Denham about the problems many health care facilities face in having basic water and sanitation facilities.

We also heard from Olha Palichuk about the ongoing tragedy in Ukraine and Jacqueline Wilson about the award of Rotary’s prestigious award of Progamme of Scale grant to combat cervical cancer in Egypt.

Chairman John Philip reviewed the year and thanked the members. He said: ‘We do not know what challenges lie ahead. I believe that there has never been a greater need for Rotarians to innovate and roll up their sleeves. We are now a strong organisation with a remarkable portfolio of programmes. We look forward to expanding our reach and increasing our impact under the leadership of Herbert and the new Board. There are thousands of health professionals in Rotary who are willing to serve others at this time of great need. We need to find a way to engage them and channel our collective energy for the benefit of others. I hope you will have a safe and fulfilling year ahead. Thank you for your support.’
